SIRES AND DAMS

"Ellie Mae" is the daughter of Greta and Zeppelin from a registered AKC breeder out of Alabama.  Ellie joined our family in the Spring in 2021 and we have been in love ever since. She can be described as both sweet and inquisitive. Ellie is often found cuddled up with our family members or jostling across our 23 acre farm.  She loves to watch over our flock of hens and has natural protective instincts.  While large, she is nimble can jolt across our land at a moment's notice.  She is wonderful with small children.  When she is ready for an adventure, Ellie loves to travel.  She has been camping in multiple states and is comfortable exploring the outdoors.  Ellie celebrated her second birthday in February of 2023 and welcomed her first litter of four beautiful puppies in July of 2023.

Ellie can be found on Berner-Garde and the American Kennel Club.

Our Process

Step 1

Discovery Call |  This initial phone or virtual meeting is designed to understand what our clients are looking for in a breeder, desired timeline, and to answer any general questions.  We also like to learn more about our prospective families such as their experience with Bernese Mountain Dogs, access to veterinarian care, and other pets in the home.

Meet and Greet |  After the Discovery Call, we set up a virtual meeting to spend more time getting to know each other.  During this time together, we like to introduce the mom of the forthcoming litter and other members of the Rooted Branch team.  We also use this gathering to answer questions that may have arisen after the initial meeting.

Step 2

Partnership + Deposit |  For families that are a great fit and ready to commit to bringing a Rooted Branch Berner into their family, we move to the partnership phase.  At this point, we request a 10% deposit which secures a space in the upcoming litter.

Step 3

Enjoy Updates |  After partnership, our clients enjoy updates of the lead up to labor all the way through Forever Day.  We use our handle @RootedBranchFarm on both Instagram and Facebook to keep families apprised of all the exciting steps.  Just as important, we are available via phone call, text, and email .  We value communication and put a heavy emphasis on it.

Step 4

Birthday |  On the day of birth, our mommas enjoy delivering in the comfort of our home on the farm.  We find this lowers their stress level and facilitates a healthy litter.  Our team is present during the birth to assist our mommas with anything they need - which often means a late yet exciting night  for everyone involved.

Step 5

Pairing Day |  About six weeks after birth, the time has come for our families to be paired with  their beloved little one.  We believe in pairing families with the perfect fit as we get to know both the puppies' personalities as well as their future lifestyles through conversations with the adopting family.  Families are able to choose the gender of their preference.

Step 6

Agreement + Finalize Payment |  Now that the selection is over, we work with our clients to finalize the agreement as we can document specific details of their puppy.  Also, we coordinate payment of the remaining balance prior to Forever Day.

Step 7

Secure Berner Essentials |  Forever Day is now in sight and final preparations are underway.  We work with our adoptive families to share tips and suggestions on supplies that will make the transition effective.  Our families gather these last minute items to be well-prepared for the big day!

Step 8

Forever Day |  Few days in our life are more exciting then this special union between our beloved Berners and their new forever families.  On this day, families travel to Rooted Branch Farm where they unite with their selected Berner baby.  We love to hand out tissues take pictures, and spend quality time with our guests.

  • What is the origin of Bernese Mountain Dogs?
Bernese Mountain Dogs come from the Swiss Alps, specifically the Bern region. They were originally bred as all-purpose farm dogs, helping with herding cattle and pulling carts. Their strong build and friendly demeanor made them perfect for life in the mountains. The breed’s history goes back to Roman times when big dogs were brought to Switzerland. Over the years, farmers mixed those early dogs with others to create the Bernese we know today. They started gaining recognition in the early 1900s, and now they’re super popular as family pets thanks to their gentle nature and loyalty!
  • What are common temperaments?

If you have a Bernese, you might find your dog has a better social life than you do! 2. Calm: They’re not hyper like some other breeds. Instead, they’re more like that chill friend who always says, “Let’s just hang out on the couch.” 3. Loyal: These pups are fiercely loyal. They’ll protect you from the mailman and any suspicious squirrels in the yard—because you never know what those furry little critters are up to! 4. Intelligent: They’re smart and eager to please, but they might pretend they didn’t hear you when you ask them to do something they’re not in the mood for. Classic! 5. Gentle: With their patient nature, they’re perfect for kids. Just be careful with their size—they might accidentally sit on a small child in the name of a cuddle!
